“Three things that cannot be long hidden: The Sun, The Moon, and The Truth.”
~Buddha

I will be bold and share my experience and thoughts on truth. I am speaking about the truth that brings great joy, the truth that lives within us, the truth that cannot be denied. I believe our inner truth is our biggest gift to bestow upon the world. This truth is the most brilliant gem we possess.

The Grapple

The same truth I spoke of above, I must admit, has destroyed some of the things I thought I could not live without, thereby activating pain and uncertainty. We innately know our inner truth, yet the fear of pain and change can have us questioning it. Without space in our busy lives to practice contacting our inner landscape that holds our truest essence, we find ourselves, in this externally lived culture, employing elaborate constructs such as amassing money or having the “right” partner, education, house, job, cause, etc. To find our truth. Once we find, curate, and adopt this false truth as our own, we begin to share and maybe even force our found idea of truth onto the world, onto situations, and onto our reality. This truth that moves from the outside in is concrete in nature and can leave us feeling exhausted, confused, and encased in a constant state of disappointment.

The real truth comes from within; we do not need to search outside ourselves for it. It is present, it is fluid, and it is vibrant like a crystal-clear stream bubbling to the surface for all to enjoy. Our truest essence is beyond brilliant, alive, and limitless, and despite all of this, we deny it for fear of how the truth may affect our life, how it may cut through all of our illusions as a diamond cuts through glass, leaving us feeling vulnerable and bare. To avoid this feeling of vulnerability and to keep our illusion intact, we hide in overindulgence, addiction, anger, and resentment, or perhaps we simply avoid everything altogether, as the list of ways to numb ourselves is seemingly unending.

“Living the life that cries to be lived from the depth of our being frees up our energy and vitality. We benefit and everybody around us benefits.”
~Deborah Adele (The Yamas and Niyamas)

The Release

To bring the cycle of denial and numbing to a gentle stop, we step into curiosity and courage and practice full contact with our very own crystal-clear stream of truth. Simple right? Yes, and practicing full contact can also feel very scary. We may feel unready for the questions and answers we are sure to encounter. In answer to this, I share my “why.” I am familiar with a quote in a recovery program: "The pain that I feel by remembering cannot be any worse than the pain that I feel by knowing and not remembering.”
I like this quote, and I will take it one step further. Contacting or “remembering’ your truth is not only not worse, but it is also so much better; it brings with it feelings of freedom and joy. To be brave enough to see, hear, and witness our truth fills us from the inside out with resonance, confidence, and the truest love available. This “remembering” creates an amazing perspective, beautiful fractional light that we could not see while hiding. We shine with brilliance and joy for all to see. We shine because our truest nature is liberated. I don’t know about you, but I surely want that all day every day, and I will share my secret. “Practice”

FIVE DAILY PRACTICES TO EXPOSE YOUR INNER TRUTH

Meditation — This is the one and foremost practice that calms my mind so that the truth may seep in without being thought of as dangerous to the construct of my life. Whether it is a guided meditation, candle gazing, or simply quiet mantra meditation, all are beneficial and unsurpassed in bringing great freedom to my mind, body, and spirit.

• Nature — Walk, sit, listen, smell, see, and touch her. Nature is always true to herself; we sense and feel that when we are present with her. Let her show you how to be in full contact with the moment and yourself.

• Honoring your Truth with 100% Truthfulness — Even when it seems not to matter, trust me, it does matter. This practice builds trust with yourself and allows for a pause (as you decide) and an awareness of your very own WHY, This feeds your truth, and In essence, it becomes your new cycle. I challenge you to live one day with 100% truth (note: don’t forget the kindness).

• Movement — Walking, yoga, or hiking are good examples. Anything that allows you to be in your body in an aware and participatory manner will do the trick. Listen to the stories you tell yourself about your body. Are they true, or are they a part of the illusion?

• Writing — Whether it is a 5-minute morning write or an evening gratitude journal, any writing activity is key to mindful living. Do what comes easily, making sure, at some point every day, to put your hand to paper and listen.
